Alternative to Kalindikunj bridge soon

Posted on November 29, 2010 by Prakash1

Connectivity between Delhi and Noida is set to improve. Also, traffic snarls within the city are expected to ease considerably. Ground work for construction of a bridge parallel to Kalindi Kunj bridge over the Yamuna has begun.

As per an agreement between Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited -which constructed DND Flyway -and Noida authority, construction of a competing facility was not allowed for a period of 10 years. DND Flyway became operational in February 2001.

As the agreement expires in February next year, Noida authority engineers have swung into action. In 18 months flat, the new bridge is likely to be complete.

Though legal hurdles held up work on a parallel bridge for long, NP Singh, deputy chief executive of Noida authority, said that now, “proposals are being prepared. The development authority is busy with preconstruction tasks. We have our surveys done. Hopefully, work on a six-lane link parallel to Kalindi Kunj bridge will start soon.“

Despite the Metro service, connectivity between the two cities has been a problem.
People who commute via Kalindi Kunj face traffic jams on a daily basis.

The bridge, which was built in the 80s to check the flow of the river and prevent floods, links Noida with Mathura road. As it is just a two-lane link on one side, the stretch cannot cope with the present volume of traffic.

“The estimated cost of the proposed parallel bridge is around R500 crore. It will take 18 months for completion.
This will ease congestion considerably,“ NP Singh, president, Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association, said.
