Noida: In July,Noida Authority first claimed to have arrived at a settlement with farmers of the 54 villages.Four months on,after several protests by farmers and directions by Allahabad High Court, the situation in Noida is back to square one.Once again, farmers have threatened to stall construction and development work from next week.
Farmer representatives from across Noida met the new CEO of the Authority on Tuesday morning seeking clarity on the Authoritys next step following the recent high court directions on land acquisition. They also served a final ultimatum to the Authority, claiming that if it does not step up its act soon, they will be left with no other option but to stall construction and development work .Farmers claim that even though,as part of their earlier agreement, the Authority was to resolve their abadi issues and distribute developed plots,it is yet to take any step. And with the high court order directing that Noida farmers also be given enhanced compensation, the Authority is yet to offer clarity.
The Authority has already missed several deadlines that it had set for resolving our issues, the latest being October 30, said Naresh Yadav, the village head of Sorkha. In Greater Noida, abadi issues of many farmers have already been resolved, Yadav said.
In todays meeting Authority officials refrained from giving us any dates regarding the settlement of our issues. If there is no change in the attitude,we will be forced to stage protests and stall construction work, said Seesh Ram Yadav, village head, Hoshiyarpur.
